My path to PM
I was thrilled about the opportunity and offer of an industrial clerk apprenticeship at the Papier-Mettler company after leaving secondary school. Due to the size of the international company, I got a top training place with insights into many areas such as accounting, purchasing, order preparation, calculation and sales – a huge range of experience.
My work at PM
I have been working in sales since the last year of my apprenticeship and today I support both national and international customers as well various subsidiaries. Sales is the “mouthpiece” to the customer and processes the enquiries in cooperation with production and various other departments. Teamwork, friendliness towards the customer and a willingness to work hard are guarantees for job satisfaction and of course happy customers too.
My experiences at PM
My dealings with customers, also in the sense of personal conversations at Papier-Mettler or at customers’ premises, have had an influence on me and are incredibly important for good cooperation. I particularly like regular contact with customers and that you can work independently a lot of the time. Thanks to the convenient flexitime arrangement, I can organise my working hours to suit me and can attend private appointments easily.
My future at PM
In my area especially, the markets still offer a great deal of potential and Papier-Mettler is growing steadily and offering me more challenges, both professionally and personally, with new products.
My path to PM
Having completed my apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at a company in Trier, I was able to gain my first professional experience in the area of purchasing/logistics. I quickly realised that this is the area in which I would like to professionally advance.
When I moved home, the commute to work was then too long. On the Papier-Mettler website I discovered that they were looking for someone for purchasing. I grabbed this opportunity and applied. The one-day trial period was a great opportunity to get to know my future colleagues, as well as the work processes. My mind was made up in favour of PM. Shortly afterwards I got the job and was able to take on the new challenges.
My work at PM
My work includes independently processing orders and scheduling with the suppliers. I am the contact person for sales when it comes to questions about products and/or delivery. On the other hand, I am also the contact for colleagues in the warehouse or for the supplier regarding deliveries or other problems that may arise. I work closely together with these departments, you could say I am the “link”. This often requires the ability to work in team, assert yourself and also solve problems.
Every day is very varied due to the customers’ constantly new and more complex requirements and requests. You often have to “think outside the box”, which makes this area of work very interesting.
My experiences at PM
I have been working at PM for almost 3 years now. During this time I have gained a lot of experience in the field of purchasing. I have been allowed to visit various suppliers. As they are very international, I have been able to further improve or expand my foreign language skills. Papier-Mettler also offers a “Buyers’ Meeting” once a year. Buyers from all the subsidiaries are invited. This is a great opportunity to meet colleagues who you usually only have contact with over the phone. Interesting lectures are also held on “Purchasing”.
My future at PM
Papier-Mettler offers excellent personal development opportunities. You can achieve a great deal here with the necessary competence and motivation.
In future, I would like to take on even more responsible tasks and the position of an independent buyer.
My path to PM
It was already clear to me during my A-levels that I wanted to learn a commercial profession. Even then, PAPIER-METTLER had a reputation as a strong and successful company, which is why I applied for a dual study programme.
My work at PM
I work with very interesting, international corporate clients. The main tasks of a Sales Manager at PAPIER-METTLER are to successfully complete customer projects with a wide variety of requirements, to competently support existing customers, to generate sales and to win new customers for PAPIER-METTLER.
My experiences at PM
The dynamics at PAPIER-METTLER are unparalleled. While in other companies decisions are made on several hierarchical levels in a lengthy process, at PAPIER-METTLER they are solved pragmatically in a very short time. It is fun to grow and develop with the company.
My future at PM
A company can only be successful in the market if it is geared towards growth and further development. I would like to make my contribution to this in the future by working successfully in sales. In such a dynamic and successful company, you have the best prerequisites for this!
My path to PM
During my time at school, I completed some work experience placements in the commercial sector. I was sure very early on that I wanted to train to be an industrial clerk. However, I wanted to create a good basis by completing the vocational university entrance qualification beforehand.
I became aware of Papier-Mettler through a job advertisement. I am happy to have decided to train at one of the largest companies with steady growth in our region.
My work at PM
Having worked in several departments during my apprenticeship, for example sales, purchasing, research, calculation and many other exciting departments, I decided to work in financial accounting after my training. This was also clear quite early on, because this work already inspired me during my apprenticeship.
My experiences at PM
During my training as well as my work in financial accounting I gained a lot of positive experience. Papier-Mettler’s global business relationships make the occupation much more interesting and exciting.
My future at PM
I would like to continue to expand my knowledge. I am currently doing this with my further training to be an accountant. With this new knowledge, I also want to be able to take on bigger, new tasks. I am very much looking forward to continuing to work at Papier-Mettler.
My path to PM
During my final years at secondary school and at many career information events, I became interested in studying computer science. When I later learned that Papier-Mettler offers this dual study course at the college of advanced vocational studies, I obtained detailed information about the Papier-Mettler company and Ravensburg college of advanced vocational studies. Shortly afterwards, I decided to apply for a dual study course with Papier-Mettler immediately after completing my university entrance qualification, as I had to complete my basic military service with the German Armed Forces after finishing secondary school. I was accepted by Papier-Mettler very quickly and then started my dual study course.
My work at PM
During the training period, I was employed in various departments (data processing, purchasing technology, management, human resources) to get to know the company and to carry out my first projects. I successfully wrote my dissertation in the human resources department on “Personnel controlling using key performance indicators in a medium-sized company”. After finishing my studies, I was taken on in software development and gradually took on more and more areas/responsibilities.
In the meantime I am responsible for the entire area of human resources and several general programs. My responsibilities include the continuous development/improvement of existing programs, the implementation of new projects, but also troubleshooting and problem solving.
My experiences at PM
Working at an international company such as Papier-Mettler presents new challenges in software development every single day. I really enjoy mastering these challenges and implementing new, interesting projects.
Since we are almost exclusively occupied with processing enquiries and projects in software development, we can organise our working hours flexibly.
My future at PM
I will focus on integrating new companies, programming new areas in the human resources department and continuously further developing the existing processes at Papier-Mettler in future. Furthermore, I will be involved in training new employees in software development and help integrate new software development areas/possibilities in our company.
My path to PM
At the beginning of my final two years in secondary school, the decision about my choice of future was getting closer. As I have always been very interested in technology, I soon decided to complete an engineering degree.
As a regional pioneer, Papier-Mettler offers the appropriate mechanical engineering specialising in plastics technology dual course of study. The perfect combination of theory and practice.
After a very interesting one-day trial period, it was clear for both sides – we are going to tackle the future together!
My work at PM
After completing my studies, I started working in application technology. This is the interface between production and sales.
My experiences at PM
Every day brings new challenges!
The everyday working life is very varied and provides lots of opportunities to contribute individually. In an excellent working environment, even complex tasks are solved quickly and permanently through effective cooperation between the various departments and short decision-making paths.
My future at PM
Papier-Mettler challenges and supports you!
As part of a fairly new department that has grown rapidly in a short time, Papier-Mettler offers very good career development opportunities. The permanent expansion of the site and high levels of investment reflect the sustainable corporate philosophy and give us confidence for a strong future.
My path to PM
After an internship at another company, I discovered the occupation of “warehouse logistics operator” for myself and then applied to Papier-Mettler. Since no other company in the region had such a large and interesting warehouse, I was really happy when I got the job. After my training, I briefly worked in the incoming goods department before I was given the opportunity to work in the logistics department where I have been working for over 10 years now.
My work at PM
At the beginning I was responsible for the export route planning, which made it easier for me to enter the forwarding industry as a newcomer from the warehouse. My tasks include tour planning, processing delivery requests, handling complaints and personnel planning (holidays, recruitment, etc.).
My experiences at PM
I learned a lot in the warehouse during my training period, which I can still make really good use of today in logistics. Thanks to the company’s support, I have completed the trainer and Bachelor Professional of Logistics (CCI) qualifications, acquiring a lot of knowledge and experience for my everyday work. The organisation and planning skills can also be used well in club life, for example when planning events.
My future at PM
New challenges arise every day in logistics, so you never get bored.
My path to PM
The dual study course through Papier-Mettler was presented as part of a project day at my school. Since the combination of theory and practice had appealed to me right away, I then applied to PM for a place on the course.
After leaving secondary school with the university entrance qualification (main subjects: French, Biology and Sports), I first travelled around Canada for a year to see some of the world while improving my English skills.
Then I started my studies in business administration (specialisation in industrial management). During the practical phases at PM I worked on projects in different departments. One of these projects was advertised by management and ultimately led to a job offer as a personal assistant to management.
My work at PM
As the PA to management, I organise appointments and conduct correspondence in German, English and French. I am also involved in preparing meetings, e.g. producing presentations or developing discussion points.
As many political measures have been taken in recent years to regulate plastic carrier bags, I also have to work with political institutions and industry associations at national and European level.
Furthermore, I work on a wide range of projects, which are concerned, for example, with improving internal communication/information or introducing programmes at subsidiaries in Germany and abroad.
My experiences at PM
Since I started at PM, I have experienced a great deal through my work, whether it was during my practical semester in Paris as part of my studies, at meetings in the EU Parliament or working with colleagues from all over Europe every day.
My future at PM
In addition to the typical secretarial work, my tasks change depending on which projects are currently pending. The company’s constant growth also continuously adds new markets, products and colleagues. This makes my job very varied!
Let’s see what the future brings – it certainly won’t be boring!
My path to PM
My training as an industrial mechanic for industrial engineering began ten years ago. The first time I became aware of Papier-Mettler and my current job was when I was attending a workshop at my school at that time, the Sophie-Scholl Realschule in Morbach. The decision to apply to this company was made easy for me thanks to the workshop, the school work experience, the closeness to where I live and the many opportunities that Papier-Mettler offers. The training takes three and a half years in total and is very varied. You get the opportunity to spend time in all the technical departments and also get to know the individual production departments, from manufacturing the film, to producing the plastic and paper bags, and recycling the film. All the basic practical activities are taught through courses and exam preparation in Papier-Mettler’s own training workshop. The basic theoretical knowledge was taught at the vocational college in Wittlich. Over the individual years of the apprenticeship, the lessons were held in blocks of several weeks, when you could fully concentrate on the theory. The intermediate examination is taken after one and a half years and counts 40% towards the apprenticeship’s final grade. The final examination takes place after three and a half years of successfully completed training.
Both the intermediate and the final examination consist of a practical and a theoretical part.
My work at PM
Having successfully completed my examination in 2011, I was employed as an industrial mechanic in shift work. My main tasks include maintaining and servicing various production machines. In the meantime, I am also sometimes used on the day shift.
My experiences at PM
Due to the company’s constant growth at the Morbach site, you come into contact with many different production machines and have the opportunity to gain new experiences every day. As Papier-Mettler is also strongly represented internationally, I have already had the opportunity to gain experience abroad. In a team of electricians and industrial mechanics, we were entrusted with the task of dismantling a production machine.
My future at PM
My hopes for my future at Papier-Mettler are continued variety in my job, being able to gain new experiences, internationally too, and job security.
My path to PM
I used to work in a mini job as a bakery shop assistant. But as I wanted a full-time job and this was not possible with my former employer, I was looking for another job. When I came across Papier-Mettler, I applied and was soon offered a full-time job.
My work at PM
My work includes checking the produced bags for the correct quality. If the quality is good, I pack the bags in boxes. I also have to make sure that the necessary work material is available for subsequent orders. I have to ensure everything is tidy and clean just before the shift change. Everyone likes to start their shift at a clean and tidy workplace.
My work requires a lot of concentration, as various products are made on the machines that are different in terms of design and quality.
My experiences at PM
Since the machines are partly fully automated and are updated to the latest technical standards time and time again, you are constantly learning new things.
My future at PM
I currently have a fixed-term contract but I would be thrilled to get a permanent job!
My path to PM
During my time in the German Armed Forces, I applied for a job as a printer at PAPIER-METTLER. I was invited to a job interview and was offered the job. I asked for a bit of time to think about it, as I had other offers. After careful consideration, I accepted the job and started working in the printing department in Plant 1.
My work at PM
After my training period on the machines I wasn’t familiar with yet, I was quickly employed in the still new segment of beverage film and was able to make my mark here. I was able to gain several years of experience before I was appointed as relief / deputy shift leader. As a relief employee, you don’t just supervise one plant but operate every printing press, for example when a member of staff is absent or there is just a need somewhere. After about half a year, I was promoted from relief employee to shift leader. I was now responsible for all the printing presses and the staff on one shift. The tasks were very diverse. For example, I had to solve printing difficulties on the machines or plan the staff for the whole shift etc.
A few years later, I was entrusted with managing the department. I continued the work of my predecessor and have been working since then on building up the department with my team, implementing new products and introducing new production processes. For this, it is not only necessary to shed light on the technological processes but to develop personnel first and foremost.
My experiences at PM
It has never been boring due to the variety of my responsibilities in a rapidly growing company. My current work has also enabled me to gain some experience abroad.
At the moment, I am also allowed to work on issues that I previously haven’t had any points of reference on at all. It’s really exciting. I am still impressed by the speed with which our company drives projects forwards.
My future at PM
In future, I look forward to the ongoing task of further developing the department in terms of personnel and technology. Some hurdles still have to be overcome here in order to implement new products and production processes in a stable manner.
My path to PM
Through acquaintances I learned that the Papier-Mettler company was looking for machine operators. This immediately aroused my interest, whereupon I applied for the job.
In response to my application, I initially received an interim reply that there was currently no vacancy. Fortunately for me, however, I received a call a few weeks later asking whether I was still interested. After a very positive interview, I was hired.
My work at PM
Since the beginning of my employment at Papier-Mettler, I have been working as a machine operator. My tasks are very varied and responsible. These include troubleshooting machine error messages, checking the quality of the bags, setting new orders and much more.
My experiences at PM
In the first weeks as a machine operator, I had doubts about doing the job as it was expected of me, as the work is quite demanding. However, with the necessary ambition and will, the thought was soon a thing of the past. Day by day, it became easier for me to find my way around in my new working environment.
My future at PM
In a nutshell: I would love to grow old in this company!
My path to PM
My training as an electronics technician for industrial engineering began almost ten years ago. The decision to join the Papier-Mettler company was made on the one hand because of its proximity to where I lived and on the other hand because the work in a constantly growing, international company offers great variety. It has also already been awarded for its good training and offers many apprentices the opportunity to be taken on if they perform well. The apprenticeship took three and a half years in total. During this time I got the opportunity to gain experience in all technical departments at Papier-Mettler. I also got to know the individual production departments: from manufacturing the film to production and recycling. In this context, I was taught the basic practical activities of an electronics technician for industrial engineering. The basic theoretical knowledge was taught at the vocational college in Wittlich. Depending on the year of the apprenticeship, the lessons were held one or two days a week. The intermediate examination is taken after one and a half years and counts 40% towards the apprenticeship’s overall grade. The final examination follows after three and a half years of successfully completed training. This is divided into a practical part, which is administered by the Überbetriebliches Ausbildungszentrum in Wittlich, and a theoretical part from the Trier Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
My work at PM
After successfully completing my apprenticeship, I was able to continue my work in the electrical workshop. I am currently working there as an electronics technician in shift work. My main tasks include maintaining and servicing production machines.
My experiences at PM
Due to Papier-Mettler’s constant international growth, I was able to gain additional experience at our company’s subsidiaries. We were assigned the task of setting up and putting production machines into operation there, working in a team of electronics technicians and industrial mechanics together with local workers.
My future at PM
For my future at Papier-Mettler, I hope to be able to continue to gain experience working abroad at subsidiary companies, as well as with both in-house and external further training.
